The Box

Before anything else, it was you.

My first love.

Before you there was life, but with you there was something else in entirety.

There was peace. There was freedom.

With you I could escape to any end of the earth my mind desired.

The hot sands of the Sahara or the frozen tundras in Alaska.

It was all accessible.

Always available.

No need for travel agents cause they couldn’t book a flight where my mind was going.

It was just *click* and there I was.

Lost for 60 minutes. Sometimes 30.

It didn’t bother me, any amount of time saved a soul.

Saved a mind.

Saved me.
Then the box was off.

No warnings.

Spent days at my mind’s airport in the terminal wondering will they ever start boarding.

I just wanna fly again.

I just wanna go to those places.

The places only my mind could take me.
So I ask you Mr. Cable Operator

When will I be able to fly again?

His reply

Soon as your momma pay that bill, little man.

Your words.

Equally inspiring and motivating. Quite honestly, it’s one of the only things that match your beauty. But those words. Are like my favorite song. Playing all day like kids did in the summers when I was young. And those same words bring me from the dark like the trains do at the end of the tunnels. Before it enters the sky like.. Like.. Let’s not think about that, quite yet. Let’s get back to those words that caress my soul. Caress it like the massuse at the parlor as I lay relaxed. Wonder if it comes with a happy ending. Cause only time will tell. Those same words could make a baby smile. And also those words can make a man cry. One sentence. Mangos and Strawberries. Next one, Onions. Fresh onions. But those onions aren’t all bad. They season those words. Sauteed never raw. But the flavor you couldn’t get in a bag of Sour Cream and Onion. It’s too rich. It belongs in the finest of meals. Those words should be served only to the highest in charge. But somehow I get to read them.

Little old me. Regular old me. Lucky old me.

Cause those words are the same words I hope I read on the rocking chair. While watching the kids play. As the steaks sizzle on the grill. As I watch the trains enter the night skys. As I watch the massuse head home after a long day while pushing her baby. Mixed with smiles and cries. Those words.

Wonder how it will be when I hear them.

Twins : Breaking the internet one Instagram photo at a time.

Most men hear the word and cringe.

Most women hear the word and cry.

When Beyoncé says it. It causes a whole different reaction.

At approximately 2pm EST, via Instagram, Beyoncé announced to the world that Her and Her husband, JAY Z, are expecting twins.

Talking about surprise announcements.

Some took to Twitter to congratulate The Carter’s on their new additions :

I mean. We def needed some good news.

Legendary is an understatement in my humble opinion.

Others chimed in with baby names :

I’m all for Luke and Laia. I’m here for this.

Not to sure about that one but hey.

Not everyone was happy :

I agree with Hippie CountryGirl.

I hear the hive buzzing.

*silence* Welp. That escalated quickly.

But we had sonograms :

Grammy Family

All in all. We appreciate the cleverness.

So if you happen to be under a rock all afternoon and this is the first thing you see.

Guess what :

All I can say is :

Yeah, we just might be.

It’s Black History Month : It’s A Time To Celebrate But Lets Not Forget

February 1st.

For some it’s a regular day. For others it’s the beginning of a month’s long celebration into a culture. African-American culture. Black History Month is upon us ladies and gentlemen. Let us celebrate and remember those who paved a way for us. Also, those who lost their lives during those trying times.

And again, we are in trying times. The Trump Administration is real. Not just a episode on ‘The Simpsons‘, it’s actually tangible. So real that it consumes us. All day our timelines and newsfeeds speak about ‘Trump did this’ and ‘Trump did that’. ‘Trump signed this’ or ‘Trump said that’. It’s really annoying and to the point I thought of throwing my phone off the L train. Fortunately, I still have it and still read it all despite my best efforts to ignore it.

But one thing that I realized we ignore often is those lives lost in most recent years. Today I just want to give us a moment to remember them again.

  • Trayvon Martin was only 17 the day he was killed in South Florida. Didn’t get to see prom or graduation. A kid, minding his business when GZ decided to take the law into his own hands.

He was 17 years old.

  • Sandra Bland was 28 years old that July day when she was stopped for a minor traffic offense. That minor traffic offense landed her in jail – for what? Who knows. – where she was found dead in her cell. Autopsy done found the cause of death to be suicide.

She was 28 years old.

But then there was Tamir Rice. And Alton Sterling. Sean Bell. Eric Garner. Mike Brown. Amadou Diallo

So many lives lost. And that’s only the names I could remember.

Black History Month is a time to celebrate and a time to remember. The Dr. Kings. The Malcolm Xs. The Assata Shakurs. The Fred Hamptons. But let us also not forget the Dontre Hamiltons. The Ezell Fords. The Walter Scotts. The Freddie Grays.

Just to name a few.

It’s Black History Month. And Black Lives Truly Do Matter. So let’s not forget the people who helped us remember.

Happy February 1st.

Happy Black History Month.

Never Forget.

LeBron vs Barkley : This has a RING to it.

Lebron James.

Charles Barkley.

One person comes to mind when I mention those two. Michael Jeffery Jordan

One player is compared to Mike. The other couldn’t beat Mike. But both are mentioned with arguably the greatest to ever lace them up. But when you mention Lebron and Charles together, it’s usually for other reasons.

So when Barkley, who everyone knows is critical of everything, commented on Lebron’s request to management for ‘ a f*cking playmaker ‘ I’m sure no one seen Lebron’s response coming.

Look around Twitter or any other social media feed with a sports following and you’ll see others are as critical of Lebron’s request for a playmaker. ( I truly wonder what Kyrie ( Irving ) and Kevin ( Love ) was thinking as they watched ‘SportsCenter‘ when they arrived at home ).

Barkley being Barkley commented :

“Inappropriate. Whiny. All of the above,” Barkley said. “The Cleveland Cavaliers, they have given him everything he wanted. They have the highest payroll in NBA history. He wanted J.R. Smith last summer, they paid him. He wanted (Iman) Shumpert last summer. They brought in Kyle Korver.

“He’s the best player in the world. Does he want all of the good players? He don’t wanna compete? He is an amazing player. They’re the defending champs.”
 – excerpted from – Marcus Kwesi O’Mard,

I mean, I agree with Barkley. 110%. No questions. If Mike asked for help it wasn’t less then a year removed from a world championship and it surely wasn’t publicly. We all know Lebron is more of a GM then David Griffin is, but still the public battle with management was a little ‘high-schoolish‘ for lack of a better term.

Lebron tho, didn’t see what we seen. Hence he responded with this last night :

Oh did we. He continued :

I wasn’t the only one who thought it. Ask Yvie

Skip Bayless from FS1‘s Undisputed‘ said on Twitter :

I mean, I didn’t think Skip was a psychologist but let’s go with it.

On another note my guy and former New York Knicks forward Charles Oakley said this :

Guess that beef isn’t dying.

Rest of Twitter had this to say :

Nope. At least in my opinion.

I mean…

I thought it was true. But I’m sure Barkley and former Lebron teammate Delonte West have a trump card.

But others defended Bron saying :

Ringless jokes never get old. Ask Patrick, Melo and Marino.

And finally … make sure you purchase the pay per view :

Not sure what comes from this. But I do know it’s entertaining on so many levels. TNT‘s monologue should be interesting Thursday night to say the least.

Hope you got your popcorn ready!

The World… From My Eyes.

‘Hov did that, so hopefully you wouldn’t have to go they that’ – JAY Z ‘Izzo ( Hova ) ‘

But did he go thru this? Did he see the things we are currently seeing?
I doubt even Nastrodamous could have seen this coming. A world where celebrities hold the highest office in our country, the President of the United States. I’m far from political, and I understand everyone makes mistakes, but this has to be the biggest blunder I’ve witnessed with or without corrective vision.

It has only been 11 days, but the world as we know it has changed rapidly. Protest have been sparked for no other reason then the fact that the majority has finally disagreed with the electoral colleges decision on our future ‘leader’.

And I’m using ‘leader’ very loosely.

President (sighs) Trump is our President. Whether we agree with or not. Record numbers in disapproval ratings only agree with the latter part of the previous statement. But as a country what is the answer? How can we spark change? Is there, if anything that we can do to reverse a decision it seems like millions of people worldwide disagree with?

The answers I don’t know as I type this. But I know I’ll have answers. Real answers.

I’m starting this blog not because I myself think change is in the foreseeable future. I’m starting this blog because everyone has a voice, an opinion. I’m just sharing mine on different topics ranging from Politics to Sports. From Music to Film to Everyday issues we encounter.

Feel free to comment and leave your voice and opinions because like I said, we all want to be heard.

Until we meet again…
